Lethal Means Safety Suicide Prevention Research in Healthcare and Community Settings

This program provides funding to evaluate the preliminary effectiveness of therapeutic and service delivery interventions that utilize lethal means safety strategies to reduce suicide risk in healthcare and community settings.

Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education)

The purpose of Project AWARE is to develop a sustainable infrastructure for schoolbased mental health programs and services. It is expected that the recipient will build a collaborative partnership that includes the State Education Agency, the Local Education Agency, Tribal Education Agency, the State Mental Health Agency, community-based providers of behavioral health care services, school personnel, community organizations, families, and school-aged youth. Based on a public health model, this partnership will implement mental health related promotion, awareness, prevention, intervention, and resilience activities to ensure that students have access and are connected to appropriate and effective behavioral health services. SAMHSA expects that this program will promote the healthy social and emotional development of school-aged youth and prevent youth violence in school settings.

National Strategy for Suicide Prevention

This program funds suicide prevention and intervention programs for adults, including by enhancing collaboration with key community stakeholders (e.g., county health departments, workplace settings, criminal justice settings, senior-serving organizations, community firearm stakeholders), raising awareness of the available resources for suicide prevention, and implementing lethal means safety.

Children’s Safety Network Program

The Children’s Safety Network program supports state agencies that seek to reduce child injury hospitalizations and deaths, including from firearms.

Community Violence Prevention Resources for Action

The CDC provides resources and guidance materials on community violence prevention.

Grants to Tribal Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Coalitions Program

The OVW Grants to Tribal Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Coalitions Program supports the development and operation of nonprofit, nongovernmental Tribal domestic violence and sexual assault coalitions. Eligible applicants will be invited by OVW to apply. Each recognized coalition will receive the same amount of base funding. Sexual assault coalitions and dual domestic violence/sexual assault coalitions will receive an additional amount for sexual assault-focused project activities.

Tribal Sexual Assault Services Program

This competitive grant program provides intervention, advocacy, accompaniment (e.g., accompanying victims to court, medical facilities, police departments), support services, and related assistance for adult, youth, and child victims of sexual assault, non-offending family and household members of victims, and those collaterally affected by the sexual assault. The program specifically supports projects to create, maintain, and expand sustainable sexual assault services provided by Tribes, tribal organizations, and nonprofit tribal organizations within Indian country and Alaska Native villages.

The Grants to Tribal Governments to Exercise Special Tribal Criminal Jurisdiction Program

The Special Tribal Criminal Jurisdiction (STCJ) Grant Program supports Tribal governments in preparing to exercise or exercising STCJ over non-Indians who commit “covered” crimes within the Tribe’s jurisdictional boundaries. “Covered crimes” are: assault of Tribal justice personnel; child violence; dating violence; domestic violence; obstruction of justice; sexual violence; sex trafficking; stalking; and violation of a protection order.

Grants to Indian Tribal Governments Program

This competitive grant program assists Tribal governments (or their authorized designees) to respond to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, sex trafficking, and stalking in Tribal communities.

Transitional Housing Assistance Grants for Victims of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault and Stalking Program

This competitive grant program supports programs that provide 6-24 months of transitional housing with support services for victims who are homeless or in need of transitional housing as a result of a situation of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking, and for whom emergency shelter services or other crisis intervention services are unavailable or insufficient.

Rural Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Program

This competitive grant program provides funds to enhance the safety of rural victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking and to support projects uniquely designed to address and prevent these crimes in rural areas. This program encourages collaboration among criminal justice agencies, victim services providers, social services agencies, health professionals, and other community organizations to overcome the problems of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking in rural communities.

Legal Assistance for Victims Program

This competitive grant program aims to increase the availability of civil and criminal legal assistance needed to effectively aid adult and youth victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking by providing funds for comprehensive direct legal services to victims in legal matters relating to or arising out of that abuse or violence.

The Grants to Support Families in the Justice System Program

This competitive grant program supports the following activities for improving the capacity of courts and communities to respond to families affected by the targeted crimes: court-based and court-related programs; supervised visitation and safe exchange by and between parents; training for people who work with families in the court system; civil legal services; and the provision of resources in juvenile court matters.

Improving Criminal Justice Response (ICJR) Program

This competitive grant program assists state, local, and Tribal governments, and courts to improve the criminal justice response to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking as serious violations of criminal law, and to seek safety and autonomy for victims.

The Training and Services to End Violence and Abuse Against Individuals with Disabilities and Deaf People Program

This competitive grant program helps to establish and strengthen multidisciplinary collaborative relationships; increase organizational capacity to provide accessible, safe, and effective services to individuals with disabilities and Deaf individuals who are victims of violence and abuse; identify needs within the grantee’s organization and/or service area; and develop a plan to address those identified needs that builds a strong foundation for future work.

The Grants to Engage Men and Youth in Preventing Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Program

This competitive grant program seeks to engage men and youth in preventing domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Grants to Prevent and Respond to Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, Stalking, and Sex Trafficking Against Children and Youth Program

This competitive grant program supports comprehensive, community-based efforts that develop and expand prevention, intervention, treatment, and response strategies to address the needs of children and youth impacted by domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Enhanced Training and Services to End Abuse in Later Life Program

This competitive grant program funds projects that support a comprehensive approach to addressing elder abuse in their communities. These projects will provide training to criminal justice professionals to enhance their ability to address elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation; provide cross-training opportunities to professionals working with older victims; establish or support a coordinated community response to elder abuse; and provide or enhance services for victims who are 50 years of age or older.

Firearms Training and Technical Assistance Initiative

This competitive grant program provides direct training and technical assistance to OVW grant recipients to assist with the implementation of domestic violence firearms policies and laws in order to help reduce domestic violence abuse involving firearms.

Peer-to-Peer Support for Survivors of Crime

This program supports a pass-through funding model in which a trauma-informed, survivor-connected technical assistance provider will provide technical assistance, training, and subgrant funding and financial oversight for at least 10 subgrant sites.

Youth Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program

This competitive grant program provides funds to increase public safety by facilitating cross-system collaboration among youth justice, mental health, and substance use treatment agencies to improve response and outcomes for justice-involved youth with mental health disorders and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

Building Local Continuums of Care To Support Youth Success

This competitive grant program supports communities in conducting planning and assessment activities that will inform the development of a community-based continuum of promising and evidence-based prevention and intervention services that will serve as a strong foundation for preventing youth from entering the juvenile justice system, diverting them from moving deeper into the system (i.e., detention and corrections) and ultimately providing them with the skills they need to lead productive, safe, healthy, and law-abiding lives.

Youth Violence Prevention Program

This competitive grant program provides funding for applicants to develop and/or enhance strategies to prevent youth violence, including youth gang involvement and youth gang/group violence.

Mentoring Programs for Youth in the Juvenile Justice System

This competitive grant program provides funds for mentoring organizations to enhance and expand mentoring services for youth who are involved in the juvenile justice system.
