EveryShot’s 2025 Year-In-Review Report Bridges Federal Gun Violence Data Gap with Comprehensive, AI-Driven Analysis of 38,368 Incidents Nationwide

Everytown Labs Launching New “Insights Center” to Provide Monthly Real-Time Trend Analysis, Cutting Through the 18-Month Federal Data Lag

NEW YORK – Everytown Labs, a project of Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund, released a comprehensive analysis of 2025 gun violence data captured by EveryShot, its groundbreaking AI-driven tracking platform. Moving forward, the Labs team will publish monthly insight reports from EveryShot, providing the public, press, and policymakers a vital tool to supplement federal data, which has a persistent 18-month lag.

As advocates seek to reduce gun violence and identify the policies and prevention strategies that will have the greatest impact, a clear and timely understanding of national patterns and trends is critical. While official public health statistics from agencies like the CDC typically face a 12-to-18-month delay, EveryShot utilizes AI to provide initial, near-real time insights into how gun violence is impacting communities until official federal data is available.

The 2025 Year-In-Review provides a comprehensive analysis of EveryShot’s publicly reported incidents of gun violence between January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025. Based on systematic monitoring of public news reports across the United States, EveryShot documented 38,368 gun violence incidents in 2025.

Key findings from the 2025 Year-In-Review report include:

  • EveryShot documented 38,368 incidents of gun violence in the U.S. in 2025, resulting in 13,926 deaths and 21,686 injuries.
  • Among the 50 states, Louisiana had the highest death rate, at 10.2 deaths per 100,000 residents, followed by Mississippi (9.3 deaths per 100,000) and Alabama (9.1 deaths per 100,000).
  • May 2025 saw the highest number of incidents (3,791), while January 2025 had the fewest (2,695).
  • Incidents were most likely to occur on a street, accounting for 40% of all incidents.
  • Escalating altercations comprised the most common incident type with 12,672 incidents, resulting in 4,379 deaths and 7,146 injuries.
  • When firearm type was identified (40% of incidents), a handgun was the most common, used in 13,707 incidents.
  • There were 2,469 incidents involving intimate partner violence, resulting in 1,754 deaths.
  • There were 485 mass shooting incidents, resulting in 493 deaths.
  • There were 937 unintentional shootings, resulting in 213 deaths.
  • Road rage accounted for 883 incidents and 114 deaths.
  • Police shootings by officers comprised 2,548 incidents, resulting in 1,407 deaths.
  • Police shootings of officers involved 731 incidents and 304 deaths.
  • While EveryShot identified 1,152 incidents involving suicide in 2025, this number is vastly understated given that public reporting rarely includes gun suicides. The same is true of gun injuries which often go unreported in the news.

Later this month, Everytown Labs is launching the first-ever AI-powered gun violence Insights Center, a dedicated digital hub that will house monthly analysis and deep dives into EveryShot data. This resource is designed to serve as a real-time pulse for media outlets requiring up-to-date localized and national data.

EveryShot draws from thousands of public news sources, tracking gun violence across 75 variables, including date and location of gunfire, characterization of the type of shooting as well as information on victims and suspects. Utilizing AI, EveryShot synthesizes a large volume of gun violence-related incidents efficiently and presents the data in multiple sortable formats. The platform is public-facing, easy to navigate, and allows for full data downloads to support independent reporting and research.
