BJA FY25 Justice Reinvestment Initiative: Strengthening State and Local Operations to Reduce Crime and Recidivism

This program will support state, local, and tribal government efforts to reduce wasteful spending and inefficiencies across justice system operations and redirect that funding to target crime and other public safety and/or justice system challenges. Applicants should propose projects that address one or more urgent local justice system challenge. Applicants should use existing data and information to identify the specific challenges they will focus on and how they will refocus resources on the strategies and populations most likely to reduce crime. Jurisdictions may consider addressing challenges across the judicial system, including those related to law enforcement, prosecution, sentencing, jails and prisons, probation, and parole.

OVW Fiscal Year 2025 Enhancing Investigation and Prosecution of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking (EIP) Initiative

The Enhancing Investigation and Prosecution (EIP) Initiative is designed to promote and evaluate effective investigation and prosecution responses to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. The EIP Initiative encourages law enforcement agencies and/or prosecutors’ offices to expand and improve their capacity to effectively investigate and/or prosecute these crimes, and, in so doing, support victim safety and autonomy, hold offenders accountable, and promote agency trust within the surrounding community.

NIJ FY25 Social Science Research and Evaluation on Forensic Science Systems

This funding opportunity seeks proposals for rigorous applied social science research and evaluative studies on the forensic science system. The field of forensic science is changing, particularly as technological advancements improve the criminal justice system’s ability to use forensic evidence more effectively and efficiently. NIJ requests applicants in two categories: Category 1: Social Science Research and Evaluation on the Forensic Science System – Category 2: Evaluability Assessment of Crime Gun Intelligence (CGI) Resources

NIJ FY25 Research and Evaluation for the Testing and Interpretation of Physical Evidence in Publicly Funded Forensic Laboratories

This funding opportunity seeks proposals for research and evaluation studies to produce practical knowledge that has the potential to improve the examination and interpretation of physical evidence in forensic science laboratories across the community of practice. This program furthers DOJ’s mission by supporting the development of new knowledge and tools to address the challenges of crime and justice in the United States.

Rural Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Program

This competitive grant program provides funds to enhance the safety of rural victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking and to support projects uniquely designed to address and prevent these crimes in rural areas. This program encourages collaboration among criminal justice agencies, victim services providers, social services agencies, health professionals, and other community organizations to overcome the problems of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking in rural communities.

Improving Criminal Justice Response (ICJR) Program

The ICJR Program assists Tribal, state, and local governments and courts to strengthen the criminal justice response to domestic/dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking by improving offender accountability, victim safety, homicide reduction, protection-order enforcement, and coordinated law enforcement and prosecutorial action. These sorts of activities treat these offenses as serious violations of criminal law and seek safety and autonomy for victims.
