The Fiscal Year 2025 COPS Hiring Program (CHP) is a competitive award program designed to provide funding directly to law enforcement agencies to hire and/or rehire additional career law enforcement officers in an effort to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts.

NIJ FY25 Graduate Research Fellowship

This funding opportunity seeks to support doctoral students whose dissertation research is relevant to preventing and controlling crime, advancing knowledge of victimization and effective victim services, or ensuring the fair and impartial administration of criminal or juvenile justice in the United States. This furthers the DOJ mission by increasing the pool of researchers who are engaged in providing science-based solutions to problems relevant to criminal and juvenile justice policy and practice in the United States.

BJA FY25 Smart Reentry: Housing Demonstration Program

This funding opportunity seeks to support state, local, and tribal governments to improve reentry and reduce recidivism by expanding and/or increasing access to housing for people who are currently or formerly involved in the criminal justice system. Prior to release from incarceration, people will be screened, assessed, and identified for program participation. The program will help jurisdictions assess their reentry systems, identify strengths and gaps, and then build capacity for improved housing options for adults released from prison or jail.

NIJ FY25 Research and Evaluation of Artificial Intelligence for Criminal Justice Purposes

This funding opportunity seeks to support research and evaluation that advances the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the criminal justice system. The goal is to improve the fairness, accuracy, and effectiveness of criminal justice processes through AI applications in crime prevention, public safety, and justice system decision-making.

NIJ FY25 Research and Evaluation on Drugs and Crime: Nexus with Firearms and Violence

This funding opportunity seeks applications for rigorous applied research on drugs and crime to inform the development of evidence-based tools, practices, and policies for state, tribal, and local law enforcement and other criminal justice agencies that address drug trafficking, drug markets, and drug-related violence. The FY25 research priority is firearms — the intersection of drug crimes and firearm offenses in trends, interdiction, and prosecution, and efforts to disrupt those criminal activities and related violence.

BJA FY25 Office of Justice Programs Community Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative Site-Based

With this funding opportunity, the Office of Justice Programs seeks to prevent and reduce violent crime through comprehensive, evidence-informed violence intervention programs focused on those at highest risk. These programs include efforts to address gang and gun violence using community violence intervention strategies based on partnerships among community residents, local government agencies, victim service providers, community-based organizations, law enforcement, hospitals, researchers, and other community stakeholders.

FY25 U.S. Department of Justice Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation

Children’s Safety Network Program

The Children’s Safety Network program supports state agencies that seek to reduce child injury hospitalizations and deaths, including from firearms.

American Rescue Plan’s Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER)

The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) included nearly $122 billion in resources for state education agencies and local education agencies through the ESSER Fund. State and local education agencies can use these funds for a range of evidence-based strategies that reduce violence and increase public safety, including community violence intervention (CVI) programs; summer and year-round programs that provide job training and work-based learning experience for students, including formerly incarcerated students, and disconnected youth who live in communities most impacted by high levels of violence; summer education and enrichment programs, including summer camp; wraparound services—such as medical care, mental health and substance use disorder care, and nutrition support—for students and their families, including hiring support personnel for schools; and more.

The STOP (Services, Training, Officers, and Prosecutors) Violence Against Women Formula Grant Program supports local communities, including Indian tribal governments and Alaska Native villages, in their efforts to develop and strengthen effective responses to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Grants to Indian Tribal Governments Program

This competitive grant program assists Tribal governments (or their authorized designees) to respond to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, sex trafficking, and stalking in Tribal communities.

Rural Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Program

This competitive grant program provides funds to enhance the safety of rural victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking and to support projects uniquely designed to address and prevent these crimes in rural areas. This program encourages collaboration among criminal justice agencies, victim services providers, social services agencies, health professionals, and other community organizations to overcome the problems of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking in rural communities.

Improving Criminal Justice Response (ICJR) Program

This competitive grant program assists state, local, and Tribal governments, and courts to improve the criminal justice response to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking as serious violations of criminal law, and to seek safety and autonomy for victims.

This competitive grant program supports comprehensive, community-based efforts that develop and expand prevention, intervention, treatment, and response strategies to address the needs of children and youth impacted by domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

The Grants to Reduce Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, and Stalking on Campus Program

The Grants to Reduce Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking on Campus Program (Campus Program) provides funding for institutions of higher education to develop and strengthen effective security and investigation strategies to combat domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking on campus, develop and strengthen victim services in cases involving such crimes on campus, and develop and strengthen prevention education and awareness programs.

Enhanced Training and Services to End Abuse in Later Life Program

This competitive grant program funds projects that support a comprehensive approach to addressing elder abuse in their communities. These projects will provide training to criminal justice professionals to enhance their ability to address elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation; provide cross-training opportunities to professionals working with older victims; establish or support a coordinated community response to elder abuse; and provide or enhance services for victims who are 50 years of age or older.

Firearms Training and Technical Assistance Initiative

This competitive grant program provides direct training and technical assistance to OVW grant recipients to assist with the implementation of domestic violence firearms policies and laws in order to help reduce domestic violence abuse involving firearms.

National Mass Violence Victimization Resource Center

This program supports a Center for resources to assist communities in being better prepared and equipped to provide victims of mass violence with timely, comprehensive trauma-informed services.

Byrne Discretionary Community Project Funding/Byrne Discretionary Grants Program
