FY25 BJA De-escalation and Crisis Response Training Program

This program supports state, local, and tribal governments, law enforcement agencies, correctional facilities, probation and parole departments, and sheriff’s departments in developing, implementing, or expanding de-escalation and crisis response training programs that improve law enforcement responses to and outcomes for individuals in crisis who have behavioral health conditions, intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DDs), physical disabilities, and/or traumatic brain injuries. This program will equip law enforcement and correctional officers with tactical skills, strategies, and technology to effectively de-escalate and handle crisis situations, enhance safety, and protect officer wellbeing.

Implementing Zero Suicide in Health Systems

The purpose of this program is to provide resources to healthcare systems for implementing the Zero Suicide framework for adults who are at risk of suicide.

OVC FY25 National Victim Crisis Hotlines

This competitive grant program provides funds to maintain, enhance, or expand the capacity of national hotlines that are essential for providing crisis intervention services, safety planning, information, referrals, and resources for victims of crime in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. Award recipients will implement enhancements that increase the quality of services and the number of victims served; support hotline staff to minimize the risk of vicarious trauma and burnout; and participate in the National Hotline Consortium.

BJA FY25 Byrne State Crisis Intervention Training and Technical Assistance Program

Safer Outcomes: Enhancing De-Escalation and Crisis Response Training for Law Enforcement – Curriculum Integration for Law Enforcement Academies and State-Level Training Commissions

This competitive grant program supports law enforcement academy programs that integrate de-escalation and crisis response concepts throughout a curriculum of instruction used to train sworn officer candidates, as well as efforts that integrate de-escalation and crisis response concepts throughout the development of statewide law enforcement training standards.

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline Administrator grants

The purpose of this program is to serve as the 988 Lifeline Administrator and manage, enhance, and strengthen the 988 Lifeline. The 988 Lifeline Administrator will maintain a robust network of crisis contact centers, implement, and oversee the national standards of care and quality to ensure that everyone who contacts the 988 Lifeline receives access to skilled, caring, culturally competent crisis counselors.

Enhancing School Capacity To Address Youth Violence

This competitive grant program supports targeted efforts to address youth violence through implementing evidence-based prevention and intervention efforts in a school-based setting (K–12th grade only).

Promoting Access to Crisis Teams – Community Policing Development

This competitive grant program provides funds to support the implementation of crisis intervention teams, including embedding behavioral or mental health professionals with law enforcement agencies, training for law enforcement officers and embedded behavioral or mental health professionals in crisis intervention response, or a combination of these.

Community Policing Development Microgrants Program

This competitive grant program helps develop the capacity of law enforcement to implement community policing strategies, including funding for targeted community-based violence intervention.

Community Policing Development (CPD) Program

This competitive grant program provides funding to law enforcement agencies to implement community policing strategies including crisis intervention teams, de-escalation training, and tolerance, diversity and anti-bias training.

Collaborative Reform Initiative Technical Assistance Center (CRI_TAC)

This competitive grant program provides funds to state, local and tribal law enforcement and correctional entities to develop and implement crisis response training programs and form partnerships with mental health, substance abuse disorder, and community service agencies to improve appropriate and effective responses to individuals in crisis who have behavioral health conditions, intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, or physical disabilities and to achieve safe outcomes for all individuals in the community.

National Initiatives: Law Enforcement Training and Technical Assistance

This funding opportunity seeks to fund training and technical assistance (TTA) programs for eight national initiatives to support law enforcement and criminal justice stakeholders in key criminal justice areas. Delivered TTA will be site-based, program-specific TTA and broader TTA for the field. This program furthers DOJ’s mission by supporting and assisting state, local, territorial, and tribal jurisdictions in improving the criminal justice system and enhancing efforts to prevent, investigate, and respond to crime.

Virtual Reality De-escalation Site-Based Initiative

This competitive grant program provides funds for state, local, campus, and tribal law enforcement to enhance training via the utilization of fully immersive virtual reality-based technology. The training seeks to improve responses to individuals in crisis and improve the de-escalation skills of participants.

Connect and Protect: Law Enforcement Behavioral Health Response Program

This competitive grant program supports law enforcement–behavioral health cross-system collaboration to improve public health and safety as well as responses to and outcomes for individuals with mental health disorders or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program (JMHCP)

This competitive grant program supports collaboration across criminal justice and mental health systems to improve public safety responses to individuals with mental illness, or with co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse.

STOP School Violence Program

This competitive grant program aims to support school safety by implementing solutions to enhance school climate, establish school-based behavioral threat assessment and intervention teams to identify violence risks, introduce technologies like anonymous reporting tools, and apply other evidence-based strategies to prevent violence. The goal is to equip K–12 students, teachers, and staff with tools to recognize, respond to, and prevent acts of violence.

This formula grant program supports implementation of state crisis intervention court proceedings and related programs or initiatives, including extreme risk protection orders.
